Care has always been at the heart of my work.
Hi, I’m Tina Leighton, owner of Chakras Nail Care & Reiki.
Before opening Chakras, I spent years caring for people in assisted living and providing in-home elder and hospice care. I loved that work, and it shaped the way I care for every person who walks through my door—with patience, gentleness, dignity, and respect.
Today, I bring that same care to detailed natural nail and foot care and Reiki. One supports what is physical. The other creates space for peace. Both allow me to meet people where they are and offer care that feels personal, never routine.
How Chakras Began
Reiki found me first.
During a period when physical pain was affecting my daily life, a coworker asked if I had ever heard of Reiki. The question brought back an old memory and enough curiosity to make me start reading. One book became many, and I went on to complete Reiki Levels I, II, and III Master training.
Reiki gave me another way to care for people—through presence, peace, and connection.
Nail care came through an unexpected nudge. I had always enjoyed doing my own nails and learning through hands-on practice. When a nail technician saw my work and encouraged me to attend nail school, I trusted the pull and became a Licensed Nail Technician.
When I first opened Chakras, I offered a little of everything while trying to discover where I truly belonged. The answer came through clients who needed more than a traditional salon appointment—people with difficult toenails, persistent nail or skin concerns, or feet they felt embarrassed to show anyone.
I continued pursuing education until I found the work that brought everything together: the detail and creativity I loved about nails, the caring heart I carried from healthcare, and the compassion at the center of Reiki.
That path led me to the Meticulous Manicurist Nail Academy and specialty STAR-NT restoration care.
What began as one specialized service became the heart of Chakras—and the work that feels most like me.

My license gave me the essential foundation. Continuing education allowed me to go further into natural nail and foot care, difficult toenails, and restoration-focused cosmetic services that are not covered in depth during standard nail-school training.
Since May 2025, I have completed more than 600 STAR-NT pedicures. Each appointment has strengthened my skills and deepened my understanding of how differently nail and skin concerns can present from one person to another.
That combination of education and hands-on experience guides every choice I make—from how I tailor your service to the tools, products, and home-care guidance I recommend.
I work within the cosmetic scope of my profession. I do not diagnose or make promises I cannot support. If I believe a concern should be evaluated by a medical professional, I will tell you.

Why Chakras?
For me, Chakras represents well-being—and that’s what I want for everyone who walks through my door.
Chakras is pronounced SHAH-krahs.
The name came to me before I ever stepped into nail school. Reiki entered my life first, introducing me to the chakra system and the idea that our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being are deeply connected.
I explored other names, but I kept returning to this one.
Every time.
I didn’t need convincing. It simply fit.
At first, nail care and Reiki may seem like an unusual combination. To me, the connection is clear. Nail care allows me to care for what is physical and visible. Reiki creates space for what is felt but not always spoken.
Both require presence, trust, and a willingness to meet each person where they are.
That is what Chakras represents to me—not perfection or some final destination, but care, balance, and meaningful moments that help someone feel a little better than before.
You do not need to practice Reiki or share any particular spiritual belief to feel welcome here. The name describes the intention behind the space—not a belief you must bring through the door.
A Little More About Me
I was born and raised in Maine. I spent five years living out of state, but Maine always felt like home, and I was happy to return.
I share my life with my husband and family, along with Loki—Chakras’ official mascot and frequent supervisor.
Outside the studio, I’m happiest near a rocky stretch of the Maine coast, at home with the people and animals I love, or deeply focused on work that feels meaningful to me.
People often think peace is a destination they will eventually reach.
I believe it is created through meaningful moments, intentional choices, and the energy we consistently put into the world.
That belief shapes both my life and the experience I try to create at Chakras.
